31st of January 2018 //  by Jo Tyler

Presenters Mark and Olivia

On Friday 26th January 2018, we renamed the BIRSt Studio and Radio studios at BU the Alan Brown Studio Suite in honour of our departed respected tutor and radio friend, Alan Brown.

Joined by Mel, Freya, Ray and Anne Brown plus a studio full of Alan’s colleagues and students we listened to Alan’s work and eulogies from colleagues and students – joined live by listeners on BIRSt.co.uk, the station Alan started.

Saeed Rashid remembers Alan

Presented by Mark Briggs and Olivia Shortfall, you’ll hear the dedication made by Mike Wilmore – Dean of the Faculty of Communication at BU, with eulogies from Emeritus Professor Sean Street, Saeed Rashid and Jo Tyler. Mel Brown noted in her acceptance that teaching radio ‘was what Alan lived for’.

You’ll hear a selection of Alan’s work from his time studying at BU, including Alan’s award winning ‘Walls Have Ears’ – also reversioned by the BIRSt 2013 Colleague Saeed Rashid remembers Alanteam as part of their Student Radio Award winning package, grabbing Silver for Best Station.
