Stephen Wozencroft grew up in the City of Coventry. As a child he grew with a love for both radio but more widely sound, and knew that he wanted to work creating audio content. Throughout his time at Bournemouth University whilst studying towards a degree in Radio, Stephen developed a strong passion for speech based radio and more specifically, for audio drama as well as cross-platform media.
Stephen feels that the future of radio is reliant on digital software and the internet, and that audio dramas will soon rely wholly on the internet for creating younger audiences, although he still feels that there will always be a place for them on the BBC platforms where there will always be an audience for them. Along with his love of radio, Stephen has a love of gaming soundtracks and the storytelling power of them. He also has a passion for the theory surrounding sound, and auditory culture. Drawing on this he wrote his dissertation on the role sound has on the gameplay experience within video games, looking at just how important sound is for telling the story,
While studying at Bournemouth University, Stephen also developed a love for student radio, where he produced and presented a live sport program on the NFL season. He also undertook work experience on the student run radio station BIRSt, where he helped with various tasks, and sat in on meetings where he would pitch ideas to the station’s managers. While working here Stephen got real insight into how a radio station is run, and gave him the drive to want to go into radio as a speech based radio producer. A long with wanting to work in radio, Stephen has a passion for creating audio for online platforms.
