Oliver West – Show Reel

  • Joker Piece

In my first year university I created a character profile of The Joker which went through all the different phases and platforms that the character has been through. I kind of made it an audio essay of the history of the character to give the audience who may not know too much about him a brief summary of why he is great. He is my favourite character in comic books and I find him to be the most unique, interesting and mysterious characters in pop culture and I really just wanted to show why I love him. I used copyrighted music and interviews too add to the piece but I mostly think it is my best work as they way I put it together and structured it is what makes it great.

  • Fearless Robert

This advert is one I did on a collaborative project for John West that advertises their instant steampot. I produced all of our radio steampot ads with a script that was wrote by a scriptwriter in our group. On this first one it was hard to find the sound effects but I think it works nicely, showing the desperation of wanting a steampot.

  • Day in Depression

This is the most personal piece that I have done as it take you through what my mind is doing and thinking when I’m on the edge of a breakdown. I really like how I was able to project what I sometime feel in my head onto a radio piece and it is something that I have always wanted to do and really bring awareness to an issue that is something I am affected by.

  • Old Terry

This is another advert for the John West steam pot, which includes an old Irishman being confused about what is going on and who he is talking to. I think the subtlety of showing how much this man loves his steampot is what makes it great and it works really well alongside the other advert.
