The BIRSt Drama Special showcases eight new, 3-5 minute radio dramas produced and directed by our radio production team at BIRSt and written by students on the MA Scriptwriting course at Bournemouth University.
Plus we also catch up with two of the MA Scriptwriters, Luka Watts and Midnight Sparkle, to get their reactions to hearing their scripts being brought to life on radio, as well as their writing process.

The Necklace

Melissa is a young woman on the run. Having stolen a necklace, she seeks refuge in a local pub, where she meets the perfect scapegoat.
North Korean Ducks

North Korean Ducks follows two young travellers who find themselves on a boat from the Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge in China to the North Korean Waters.

A teenage boy called Tim has possibly just died. But who is coming to visit him?

This Drama is about a boy (Tim) who attempts to commit suicide and just before he does he receives a visit from what seems to be the Grim-reaper (Hermia).
Alis Volat Propriit
Directed by: Adam Aspinall. Written by: Sophia Goeman
Translated as She Flies with Her Own Wings in Latin, this is a short contemplative piece. It follows Max, who, still hearing the voice of his dead wife Eireen, travels to a lighthouse they once visited together. Upon arriving he tries to finally find closure and peace. Allowing for reconciliation with his memory of her.

Domestic drama following the lives of married couple Jonathan and Margaret who struggle to come to terms of the recent death of their dog, Rover.
Life Issues
Directed by: Flare Usher. Written by: Andrea Begega Suarez
Life issues is a story about what our dreams can tell us about our own fears. Dawn is in a flight attendant who thinks she has everything under control. She is in a sleep paralysis where she imagines everything she has ever wanted.
Captain Al
Directed by: Sam Hawkins. Written by: Oliver Walton-Harrod
A parody of cheesy science-fiction serials of the 1950s and 1960s following the adventures of Captain Alan Phaser.
